He first makes each component on the torch as an individual cane, known as a murrini, which are “pictures in glass.” He then slices and polishes each murrini cane to meld the slices of design into the molten glass Millefiori pattern. He then fumes 24k gold and .999 silver onto the back of the glass to add color, reflectivity and dimension. Dark cobalt blue glass is the final step in assembling the “bar” of design. Gold and Silver are finally fumed onto the back of the glass. After annealing, he hand cuts and polishes each pair of earrings which are then mounted on sterling silver findings. There is no mechanization involved so each pair is truly one of a kind and hand made.
